Good late-summer projects
- Garage and basement cleanouts. Old furniture, broken bikes, boxes that never got unpacked.
- Bedroom refresh. Old carpet, a dated closet system, worn mattresses and frames.
- Small bathroom update. Vanity, toilet, tile and drywall.
- Playroom conversion. Clearing toys and furniture to turn the space into an office or study area.
Size guide
For most of these jobs a 10 yard container is enough. If the job adds up, say a basement cleanout plus a bathroom tear-out, a 15 yard container gives you room without paying for space you won't use.
Timing tips
- Book a few days ahead. Late August and September stay busy.
- Have the container delivered the day before you start so it's ready.
- Plan around school pickup if the container is going in a shared or busy driveway.
Loading tips
Break down furniture and flatten boxes. Put heavy items, like tile and plaster, on the bottom. Keep everything below the top rail.
What not to toss
Paint, chemicals, batteries and electronics usually need separate disposal. Check your town's rules.
